Sweet September

A small update on the goings on here at Glen Riddle:

The September weather has been blissful here on the eastern shore.  We are starting to see highs top out in the low 80's and night time lows dip into the low 50's.  Such weather is extremely conducive to repairing our summer damaged areas, re-sodding other problem areas, and growing some really strong strands of grass.  Take note of the newly sodded areas around War Admiral, particularly the entire right side of the walk on of 14 green.  Please take a free drop from these areas and play on.

The weather also allows us to keep the course on the dry side.  During the intense summer heat we try to do the same, but often we err to keep turf hydrated enough to get through the day with minimal wilt and scarring.  As our risk of damaging wilt decreases we can let the course firm up and play a little better.

On Man O War we've started the process of overseeding tees for winter play.  Earlier today I applied a pre-emergent herbicide to the tee surrounds and I will be doing the same tomorrow.  We apply the herbicide everywhere we want to prevent the perennial rye from germinating.  Soon after we will apply the rye seed to the tee tops and provide plenty of water.  Hopefully as the grass grows in we'll be left with nice crisp edges on our tee tops.  This is my first chance to overseed and I'm excited to learn a new skill.  It's basic in nature, but just as important as anything else we do.

I've mentioned many things I want to post about, and have my list written out at work.  I hope to find the time to get them all in.  Thanks for reading!
